Just Cause Reflections

From Uncertainty to Confidence in Retirement

Dan Kain, Senior Wealth Manager

Over the past two years, we’ve had the privilege of working with a wonderful couple who came to us with some very real concerns about retirement. The husband was hesitant about taking the leap, and understandably so. Like many, he wanted to ensure that stepping away from work wouldn’t compromise their lifestyle, and above all, he wanted to know his wife would be taken care of if anything ever happened to him.

His wife, on the other hand, had been encouraging retirement for some time. She’d seen the toll that work-related stress and past health issues had taken on him, and she knew how important it was for him to prioritize his well-being.

Through regular conversations and planning over time, we’ve helped ease their concerns. What began as cautious but curious meetings has grown into a relationship built on trust and shared goals. Today, he tells us that retiring was the best decision he’s made – and she wholeheartedly agrees.

He knows now that they are financially secure and that someone is in their corner, ready to support his wife should the need ever arise. She’s expressed how much peace of mind it brings her to have guidance in an area that once felt overwhelming. As she put it, “money scares me,” but she’s grateful to have a team helping them make confident decisions.

Stories like theirs are a reminder of why we do what we do. It’s not just about the numbers – it’s about the people, their peace of mind, and helping them live the life they’ve worked so hard to build.

I Can Buy You Flowers

Tonya Laughing, Operations Specialist

Flowers have spoken to me more than I can tell in written words. They are the hieroglyphics of angels, loved by all men for the beauty of their character, though few can decipher even fragments of their meaning.” Lydia M. Child

I read their words in an email, but I could feel how raw and truthful they were.

Life is really hard right now."

Yes, it is.

And sometimes there are no words that can soothe the pain, the hardship, and the confusion. Words can fail us in many ways.

As I struggled to find those words that may bring some comfort, I was reminded of Oscar Wilde’s words: “The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the greatest intention.”

In an era where songs like Miley Cyrus’s “I Can Buy Myself Flowers” remind us of self-reliance and independence, the spotlight often shines on what we can do for ourselves. But here at S.E.E.D., we’re encouraged, supported, and empowered to spread kindness through simple, meaningful acts for others. To go beyond ourselves and the moment, to exemplify our just cause, give encouragement, and share love in this world.

Through our Good Karma program, I was able to buy flowers and send them to our dear clients. Yes, a small gesture, but hopefully in some way they brought life and light into a dark moment.

Always be kind and always stop to smell the flowers.

You are seen and you are loved - you are our Just Cause.

Navigating the world of financial advising can feel like wandering through a maze blindfolded. Not every financial advisor is created equal—some have the credentials and expertise, while others just have the title. So, how can you tell the difference?

In this brand-new four-part series from the Ditch the Suits Podcast, co-hosts Travis Maus and Steve Campbell are joined by Jeff Chase, Senior Vice President of Financial Planning at S.E.E.D.
