Happy Spring
In this episode, Mae Tichenor and Tonya Laughing highlight the meaningful initiatives our Binghamton and Knoxville offices are supporting to give back to their communities.
In Binghamton, the team is participating in the 2nd Annual Adopt A Box Sneaker Drive in partnership with the United Way. Now through July 25th, they’re collecting new, unworn sneakers to support local youth in need.
In Knoxville, our team continues to support the Isaiah 117 House, a compassionate organization that helps children in crisis. Most recently, they responded to a request for girls' clothing through our Seeds of Hope program — a true reflection of heart in action.

Just Cause Reflections
Being There
Tyler Sherven, Senior Investment Planner

Throughout my time at S.E.E.D., I’ve had the privilege of supporting people through their most challenging moments. The most valuable work we do is being by somebody’s side through their most difficult periods and helping them see through to their goals.
Sometime ago, a client was struggling through end-of-life care and nursing home expenditures. Throughout that period, I got to know the client’s son and the immense care he was taking to advocate for his parents’ well-being. He was overwhelmed — emotionally drained from managing care decisions, financially burdened by the cost of services, and confused by the complex systems of healthcare and estate transitions. They were caught between honoring their parents’ wishes and making practical decisions under pressure.
Our first step was to bring clarity. We gathered financial documents, reviewed care expenses, and mapped out what resources were available. I walked the client’s son through each step in being a steward of the investments as Power of Attorney. Beyond the paperwork and strategy, I simply made myself available — to talk, to explain, to reassure. Sometimes, just being present makes all the difference.
Following the client's peaceful passing, their financial affairs were managed responsibly. Their son, moved by the care we provided, asked us to help manage his assets. Perhaps most importantly, the son no longer felt alone in the process. He shared later that having someone in his corner, someone who knew the landscape and could guide him without judgment, was the support he hadn’t realized he needed.
This experience reminded me that our work is never just about numbers or checklists. It’s about people, their fears, their values, and their relationships. At S.E.E.D., we have the privilege of stepping into people’s lives at the most vulnerable moments and helping them carry the weight. That trust, and the opportunity to ease someone’s burden, is something I will never take for granted.
The Heart of the Just Cause

There’s something powerful about being part of a team united by a shared purpose. At S.E.E.D., that purpose is clear: Helping others overcome the challenges that are keeping them from personal fulfillment. It’s more than a mission statement—it’s the heart of everything we do.
What makes this team unique is how naturally that purpose shows up in our daily work. It’s the way team members go out of their way to ease a client’s stress. It’s the willingness to listen, explain, and walk alongside someone through something that may feel overwhelming. It’s in the quiet moments of reassurance, and the big wins we celebrate on behalf of the people we serve.
The Just Cause isn’t something we reference occasionally—it’s something we live. And being surrounded by people who are driven not just by tasks, but by impact, is truly inspiring. It fuels collaboration, lifts morale, and reminds us that all our work has meaning far beyond what’s on paper.
It’s rare to find a workplace where values are this deeply embedded, and even rarer to find a team that brings them to life so authentically. At S.E.E.D., every day is a chance to be part of someone’s breakthrough moment—to help them feel seen, supported, and confident in their next step forward.
That’s the kind of work that leaves a lasting mark. And that’s the kind of team I’m proud to be a part of.
